Good god man this is probably one of the most quintessential problems of our generation (i'm 28). I've been noticing the same things about youth culture and "Hipsterdom". I have a couple of ideas to combat the corrosion of our creative expression (culture)

1.) Letting Go of nostalga (This is Paramount).
WHY
a.) It makes room for new ideas
b.) Frees one from the desire to console oneself using imagery or objects from the past.

2.) Cultivating tenacious curiousity.
WHY
a.) It provides us with new/different questions.
b.) With new questions come new/different
3.) Recognizing the Narcissim within ourselves
WHY
a.) For obvious reasons

dunno if this helps
